Women's Golf Boasts Runner-Up Finish in the Stroke Play Portion of the Big South Championship, Earning No. 2 Seed for Match Play Saturday

NINETY SIX, S.C. – For the first time in the program's Division I era (2007-pres.), USC Upstate women's golf finished stroke play at a conference championship with three players within the top-10 as the Spartans claimed a runner-up team finish at the Big South Women's Golf Championship for the second consecutive season.

Leading the way for Upstate, redshirt sophomore Preaw Nontarux wrapped the stroke play portion of the 2022 Big South Championship tied for second, pacing a trio of top-10 finishers for the Spartans. She fashioned scores of 74-75-71-220 with her final-round 71 marking the lone round at or below-par by a Spartan at the event.

Joining Nontarux in the top-10, redshirt junior Beem Pabsimma and redshirt sophomore Abigayle Hatcher tied for eighth. Pabsimma carded marks of 75-74-77-226 while Hatcher posted tallies of 74-75-77-226 with her total marking a career-low 54-hole total.

As a team, the Spartans, behind three top-10 finishers and four top-15 finishers, collected their third consecutive runner-up finish. Upstate carded scores of 298-299-300-897 with the team's first and second round totals marking the 15^th and 16^th sub-300 rounds of the year.

Competing for the Big South Championship Saturday, Upstate earned the No. 2 seed in the match play portion of the event. The Spartans begin the day against No. 3 Charleston Southern with the winner facing the winner of the No. 1 Campbell/No. 4 UNC Asheville match.
