CLEMSON, S.C. – Seeing Mother Nature push forward the game's start time and then delay the game until its original first pitch time, USC Upstate baseball wrapped its midweek slate Tuesday night, dropping the season's final non-conference game 12-2 to No. 6 Clemson in eight-innings via run rule at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
The Tigers struck first Tuesday night, scoring two runs in the first inning before adding a pair in the third to stake a 4-0 lead. The Spartans got back a run in the fourth, turning a leadoff double from junior
Easton Cullison into the team's first run on a wild pitch. Answering Upstate, Clemson tallied three additional runs in the fifth with the Spartans pushing their final run across in the sixth, cutting the lead to 7-2. Tacking on in the seventh, the Tigers added three more runs on a homer before walking off the Spartans with two runs in the eighth as the final run scored on a wild pitch.
For the Spartans, six different players recorded a hit with Cullison's double in the fourth the team's lone extra-base hit. In the sixth, Upstate drew four walks, totaling four of the six free bases drawn by the team, with the fourth walk of the inning to sophomore shortstop
Cole Caruso's walk producing Upstate's lone run batted in.

Notable
- Picking up a fifth-inning single Tuesday, Grant Sherrod added his 120th total base of the season, becoming the second Spartan in the program's Division I era (2007-pres.) with 120 total bases in a single season. He needs three total bases to collect the D1 era record and surpass Andrew Runion's D1 era record (122 in 2008).
- Splitting the right-center gap, Easton Cullison picked up his lone hit of the game with a double, doubling for the third straight game (four total doubles) and giving him 12 for the season. Over the past seven games, he's recorded a double in five of the seven games, tallying six of his 12 two-baggers.
