SPARTANBURG, S.C. - USC Upstate women's basketball head coach Jason Williams and his staff are more than excited to announce the 2023-2024 nonconference schedule leading up to the highly anticipated return of Morgan Square Madness. Â
Head coach Jason Williams was excited to roll out the non-conference schedule saying, "As we turn the page into year two, we are excited to play a really tough non-conference schedule. Coach Rhodes did a phenomenal job putting together a balanced schedule of home and away games. Most importantly this schedule will prepare us for Big South play". Â
To commence the Spartans' 2023-204 season, Morgan Square Madness—the only outdoor basketball tip-off event in the state of South Carolina—returns to downtown Spartanburg on October 5th. The event, planned to be even larger than last season's inaugural event, is the first opportunity for the Spartan Army to see the 2023 men's and women's basketball programs.Â
The first game of the 2023-2024 season will be an exhibition game at home against Bob Jones on Wednesday, Nov. 1st with a 5:00 p.m. tipoff. Â
Upstate will then take to the road for the first three games of the regular season starting with Davidson on Tuesday, Nov. 7th at 7:00 p.m. in North Carolina. Returning to North Carolina, the Spartans will next play ECU on Thursday Nov. 9th before capping this set of road games on Saturday, November 11th against the University of Kentucky. Â
Women's basketball returns home to host the Bobcats of Lees McRae on Tuesday, Nov. 14th at 7:00 p.m. before packing the bus once again to finish the week with a quick trip to Charlotte to play Queens on Friday, Nov. 17th. Before the Thanksgiving holiday rolls around, the Spartans will host S.C. State on Monday, Nov. 20 at 7:00 p.m.Â
The Spartans will finish the month of November in Statesboro, Ga. with two games at the Georgia Southern Thanksgiving MTE Tournament playing Detroit Mercy Friday, Nov. 24th and North Florida Saturday, Nov. 25th. Following the tournament, Upstate heads to Alabama to play Samford University Thursday, Nov. 30 at 6:00 p.m. Â
Upstate will have two remaining home games and two remaining away games in December before Big South Conference play commences. The second to last away trip will be a short drive to Cullowhee, N.C. to play Western Carolina Tuesday, Dec. 5th and the final road game will be a bit longer of a drive to Atlanta, Ga. to play Georgia Tech Wednesday, Dec. 20th. The Spartans finish their non-conference games at home with Furman Saturday, Dec. 9th and UNC Greensboro Monday, Dec. 18th.Â
The 2023-24 Big South Conference schedule will be released at a later date with game times and broadcast information released at a later date.Â
