Kosney's 70 Leads Spartans Up Leaderboard, Continues Top-5 Streak

JACKSONVILLE, FL--The USC Upstate Women's Golf team picked up where they left off from their 2023 schedule with another great showing at the highly competitive Sea Best Invitational, held in Jacksonville, FL. Battling against wind gusts of up to 25 mph and persistent rain threats throughout the tournament, the Spartans finished fourth in the fifteen-team field, amidst some of the region's top competitors.

The Spartans extended their streak of top-5 finishes to six for the 2023-2024 season. Their team performance, highlighted by their team score of 291-302-298-891 and having every Spartan golfer finish in the top 50, proved their team's depth heading into the 2024 swing of the schedule.
Leading the charge for the Spartans was Supatta Puttanavarat, whose performance secured her a tie for 9th place overall. With impressive rounds of 72-75-74-221, Puttanavarat's consistency was instrumental in the Spartans' top-five finish. Notably, newcomer and Dalton State transfer Rylie Kosney delivered a standout performance, surging 32 spots in the final round with an impressive -2 score, ultimately finishing tied for 11th.
Head Coach Todd Lawton said, "This was a very solid start to the spring (season) against a very strong field. Everyone contributed and that's important." Lawton also added that Supatta was consistent in every round for the Spartans and Rylie's performance in difficult conditions were extremely impressive.
The Spartans' dominated the final round, scoring a field-low of 298. Additionally, the team led the field in birdies with 42 over the three rounds, with Suwarin Yord-in leading the charge with an impressive 12 birdies. Yord-in's was in the zone, especially on par 3s, where she shot an impressive -3, contributing significantly to Upstate's success on these holes. The team secured the best score on par 3s, boasting a four-stroke lead over the nearest competitor, High Point.
Reflecting on the team's performance, Suwarin Yord-in expressed pride in their achievements and optimism for the future, stating, "I'm so proud of our team. It's a great start to our spring season, and we're looking forward to improving each tournament!"
Overall, Paola Rosario of Cincinnati claimed the individual title with a score of 213. The Chanticleers of Coastal Carolina emerged victorious in the team category, followed by Campbell and Charleston Southern.
