HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SCÂ -- The USC Upstate women's golf team gears up for another run at the friendly confines of the Low Country Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford College. With a history of dominance in this tournament, the squad is poised to continue adding to their success on the greens of the Moss Creek Golf Club.
Having secured second place in both the 2022 and 2023 editions of the event, the USC Upstate women's golf team enter this year's competition with confidence in familiarity with the course. Among the standout performers at Moss Creek is Suwarin Yord-in, whose consistency should be added to the Moss Creek Golf Club lore for collegiate players. She has two top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish in 2022. Her impressive performance, highlighted by a (74-73-71-218) scorecard and a shared birdie lead, exemplifies her prowess on the course.
Teammate Praew Nontarux has also left her mark on the Hilton Head course, performing well in previous tournament editions. In 2021, Nontarux clinched a sixth-place finish with a score of 72-74-146, contributing to the Spartans' continued success in the Low Country Intercollegiate.
For the USC Upstate women's golf team, Wofford-hosted events have become a conduit to success, with a history of elite performances dating back to 2016. The Spartans have established themselves as one of the favorites for the upcoming event, with seven top-three finishes out of nine events hosted by Wofford College and a team title in the 2022 Terrier Intercollegiate.
Head Coach Todd Lawton emphasized the challenges that await the women's golf team at the Low Country Intercollegiate. "Moss Creek is visually demanding," Coach Lawton said, highlighting the intricate layout of the course. He noted that wind conditions could significantly impact scoring, with swirling winds posing a constant challenge for players to navigate. "The course meanders through the property," Coach Lawton continued, underscoring the strategic layout of Moss Creek. Additionally, Coach Lawton pointed out the short-game challenges as well. "The green complexes are elevated, placing a premium on accuracy and spin control."Â

About The Course:
Golf Digest has referred to Moss Creek Golf Club—South as "a beauty with a bite." Much of the nationally famous Devil's Elbow South Course stretches along the lovely salt marshes of the Intracoastal Waterway and Mackay Creek, which brushes along the northern reaches of the property.
Considered one of George and Tom Fazio's best efforts, the par-72 golf course measures approximately 6,878 yards from the back tees, with a rating of 73.9 and a slope of 136. While not long, it is an exacting golf course with tight greens almost throughout.
Built in 1975, the golf course plays longer and is considered more difficult than the Moss Creek North Course.
