A Message from Matt: Return to Campus Edition - August 2024
8/5/2024 3:46:00 PM | General, Upstate Athletic Fund
Good afternoon!
The campus is buzzing with energy as our student-athletes are back! While most will arrive on the first day of classes, our women's soccer team has reported and men's soccer, volleyball and cross country are reporting in the coming days. We're kicking off the season with a home exhibition match for women's soccer Thursday night. It's hard to believe summer is already over!
You might have heard about the new fundraising arm of Upstate Athletics, the Upstate Athletic Fund (UAF). Following a successful soft launch last year, the UAF is now the primary fundraising arm for all donations to the green and black. It offers unique, exclusive benefits to all participants.
Formerly known as the U-Club, the UAF aims to drive financial support directly toward the development of USC Upstate's student-athletes, both in their athletic endeavors and academic pursuits. I am extremely proud of our student-athletes and I view UAF as a catalyst to even more success for us.
The UAF counts every gift to Upstate toward membership, including contributions to the following funds:
This week, we will expand our support for our student-athletes by announcing our new formalized Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) collective, "The Regiment". This initiative is designed to support the success of all our student-athletes here in Spartanburg.
Tomorrow, our USC Upstate women's basketball team will take flight into history as the program becomes the first to make an international trip. The Spartans will spend ten days in Greece, not only immersing themselves into the culture, but also getting in valuable practice time and exhibition contests against local teams. Watch our social media channels for a behind-the-scenes look at the trip to Greece.
As we welcome our student-athletes back to campus, we too look forward to welcoming our fans back to campus as well! In addition to Thursday's women's soccer exhibition at 7pm, men's soccer will also host an exhibition Wednesday, August 14th as well.
Go Spartans!
