SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Rounding out the week after a two-game trip on the west coast, Upstate Men's Basketball opened home play in a non-conference matchup with Southern Virginia where every Spartan that touched the court ended up in the scoring column including four Spartans heading in double figures.
Upstate Men's Basketball saw Carmelo Adkins surpass his new career high in points (23) and from beyond the arc (7), Kanye Jones tied his career high with 14, and CJ Rich added a new career high with five points. The Spartans dominated in the paint with 50 points compared to the Knights' 24. Upstate added a new season high with 68 bench points followed by using their pace to control the game with 32 fastbreak points.
The Spartans never gave up the lead through 40 minutes while also scoring 56 through the first half and 49 in the second half. Breylin Garcia led the Spartans on the boards with nine rebounds followed by Nic Book, Tyler Smith, and Coen Collier added six rebounds. Tyler Smith led with four steals and five different Spartans added one block (Coen Collier, Tyler Smith, Kanye Jones, Jafeth Martinez, and CJ Rich).
