Men’s Basketball announces Derek Edmond as another piece to the 2026-27 Signing Class

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Head Coach Marty Richter has announced Derek Edmond to the 2026-27 signing class for USC Upstate ahead of the new campaign. Edmond comes to Upstate after spending two seasons at Southwestern College (Calif.).
Edmond appeared in 58 games through two seasons and started in 36. Edmond made the jump from 8.7 points a game in his freshman season to 24.5 points in his sophomore season. Derek Edmond proved to get a bucket with 25 double figure performances including two 40-point outings and five 30+ point performances. Edmond shot 43 percent from the field, 33 percent from beyond the arc, and 82 percent from the charity stripe. Derek Edmond's will to score displayed at Victory Christian Academy (Calif.) where he averaged 17.8 points during his senior season. Edmond can fill up the stat sheet where averaged 6.8 rebounds a game while adding 2.5 assists and one steal a game. His efforts on the court him First Team All-League honors and was the number one juco scorer in California.
Head Coach, Marty Richter expressed his excitement on landing a bucket getter like Edmond mentioning, "Derek is an exciting young man who has shown the ability to affect the game on both sides of the ball. He led his previous program not only in scoring, but also rebounding, steals, and blocks. Our entire staff is prepared for him to arrive this summer and help him to develop both on and off the court!"
As Derek Edmond makes his way to Upstate, he will take on a new journey where he can develop within the system of Marty Richter and make a name for himself around the league. With the way he can fill up the stat sheet, Edmond will have many opportunities to find success on the court within Upstate Men's Basketball.
