Baseball's Kyle Beaty Earns Promotion on Head Coach Kane Sweeney's Staff, Taking Over as the Director of Pitching Development

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Adding another layer of continuity to the program as it seeks a third straight Big South Championship, USC Upstate baseball and head coach Kane Sweeney are proud to announce the promotion of Kyle Beaty to Director of Pitching Development. The former Spartan hurler enters his second season on staff, his first as an assistant coach.

After helping the Spartans to their first-ever Big South Baseball Championship and NCAA Regional appearance as a player in 2025, Beaty helped Upstate with its double-up, serving as a student assistant in 2026. The campaign saw Upstate earn its sixth-straight 30-win season, extending the longest stretch of such seasons in program history, en route to earning its way to day three of the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional.

Working with the team's pitching staff, he helped the Spartans rank in the top half of the Big South in six different statistical pitching categories. He also helped the Upstate pitching staff propel the Spartans to a Big South Championship, posting a 3.77 over the final month of the regular season and the Big South Baseball Championship. Under his tutelage, Upstate pitchers captured five Big South weekly awards.

A one-year Spartan, Beaty helped Upstate to a Big South regular season and tournament titles and an NCAA Clemson Regional appearance in 2025. Over 20 appearances and 36.1 innings, he tied for the team lead in relief wins, finishing 5-1 on the mound.

A native of Dacula, Ga., Beaty graduated from USC Upstate in 2025.
