Baseball and Head Coach Kane Sweeney Make Another Additon to the Coaching Staff, Adding Former Spartan Jake Armsey as the Director of Player Development

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Keeping a key piece of the Spartans' back-to-back Big South Championship squads in the Hub City, USC Upstate baseball and head coach Kane Sweeney are excited to announce the addition of Jake Armsey to the program's coaching staff. The former Spartan infielder enters the coaching ranks serving as Upstate's Director of Player Development.

A five-year Spartan, Armsey has helped the program reach greater heights during his playing days, leading Upstate to consecutive Big South Tournament Championships and NCAA Regional appearances, the program's first Big South Regular Season Championship, and four straight Big South Baseball Championship Game appearances.

In his time in Spartanburg, he appeared in 181 games (7th-most in the program's Division I era [2007-pres.]) and made 161 starts (10th-most in the program's Division I era [2007-pres.]) while setting D1 era career marks for runs (138; tied) and walks (105).

Saving his best for last, he started all 64 games for the Spartans en route to day three of the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional, posting a .305/.405/.432 slash line with 55 runs, 74 hits, 19 doubles, four home runs, 51 RBI, and 31 walks.

A native of Akron, Ohio, Armsey graduated with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Administration in 2025.
