Women’s Soccer Returns Home to Host Presbyterian in Wednesday Night Big South Matchup

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate women's soccer returns home Wednesday evening as the Spartans continue Big South Conference play against Presbyterian College. Kickoff from County University Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the match available on ESPN+.

Wednesday's match will also serve as Upstate's White Out, with fans encouraged to wear white. USC Upstate students can receive a white Upstate T-shirt sponsored by USC Upstate OSI while supplies last. Make sure to bring your student ID and arrive early!
Upstate enters Wednesday riding a two-match winning streak after earning a 2-0 road victory over Longwood Saturday afternoon. Jasmyn Mitchner opened the scoring for the Spartans before Cansu Kara added her first goal of the season to secure the shutout. The victory improved Upstate to 2-0 in Big South play following a 2-1 win over Charleston Southern in its conference opener.
Through 11 matches, the Spartans have scored 21 goals while recording 113 shots and 62 corner kicks. Liana Bryant leads the Upstate attack with six goals, four assists and 16 points, while Mitchner follows with five goals, three assists and 13 points. Kara has been a key distributor for the Spartans, recording a team-high five assists to go along with seven points.
Upstate has also found success defensively, allowing just 11 goals through its first 11 matches while recording three shutouts. The Spartans enter Wednesday unbeaten at County University Soccer Stadium this season with a 2-0-1 home record.
SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN
Presbyterian enters Wednesday with a 2-5-1 overall record and an 0-2-0 mark in Big South play. The Blue Hose are coming off a 2-1 setback against Gardner-Webb on Sept. 23. Maddi Merryweather scored the equalizer in the 78th minute off an assist from Anna Hussey before Gardner-Webb responded with the game-winning goal in the 82nd minute.
Presbyterian has faced several close contests this season, with four of its five losses entering Wednesday being decided by one goal. The Blue Hose produced 15 shots, including seven on goal, against Gardner-Webb and held a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Wednesday's match also features a familiar face for the Spartans as Maddie Smith returns to County University Soccer Stadium after transferring to Presbyterian following her freshman season at Upstate. Smith appeared in more than 500 minutes for the Spartans in 2025 and earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors during the season.
Wednesday marks Upstate's third completed Big South match of the season as the Spartans look to remain unbeaten in conference play. Following the match up with Presbyterian, Upstate remains home to welcome Winthrop Saturday, Oct. 3, at 3:30 p.m.
