Solomon Zurier enters his second year with the Upstate men’s basketball program and first as director of basketball operations.
In 2021-22, Zurier served as the assistant director of basketball operations with the program assisting with all facets of program operations, film breakdown, practice scheduling and academic monitoring. During his first year, the Spartans earned the number two seed in the Big South basketball tournament and set a program record for conference victories as a Big South member with 10. The Spartans also reached the tournament semifinals for the first time as a Big South member (2018-19).
Prior to his arrival in Spartanburg, Zurier spent two years at the International Sports Academy (ISA) in Willoughby, Ohio as both an assistant and head varsity boys basketball coach. Among his many duties with program included developing scouting reports, practice plans, game plans, in-game coaching, recruiting to the year-round high school program, film exchange and video breakdown, game scheduling, alumni relations, fundraising and social media. He help to place six players with collegiate programs the following year and the program was featured three times on ESPN.
From 2014-19, Zurier served as an assistant basketball coach at St. Mary’s College of Maryland. While with the Seahawks, the program reached the postseason four seasons including earning the conference championship in 2014-15. In addition to performing every duty in the life of the basketball program, Zurier also assisted the Division III program with game operations in other sports including field maintenance, sports information assistance and play-by-play duties for baseball among other tasks.
Prior to 2019, Zurier served as an assistant coach for the Maryland 3D basketball program, at Morgantown (WV) high school and was the head coach of the club basketball team at his alma mater, West Virginia University.
Zurier is a 2014 graduate of WVU with a bachelor of arts in athletic coaching and is schedule to complete his master’s degree in positive coaching and athletic leadership from the University of Missouri this fall.
