Julio Peralta

Former ATP Tour professional Julio Peralta is in his third yearas an assistant coach with the USC Upstate tennis teams, servinghis second year as a student assistant during the 2010-11 season.In his first two years with the program, the Spartans have posted a40-8 (.833) record in men’s play and a 25-9 (.735) mark inwomen’s play.

In his first year as a student assistant coach, Peralta helpedcoach the men’s tennis team to an 18-5 overall record, as theteam won its first A-Sun title by posting a perfect 10-0 record.While the men notched five All-A-Sun performers, Peralta wasinstrumental in leading the Spartans to a national ranking thatreached as high as No. 54.

Peralta joined Upstate’s coaching staff for the 2009 seasonas a volunteer assistant. He was an active part of theSpartans’ success. Primarily working with the men’steam, he helped the group post a 22-3 overall record and finishsecond in the A-Sun. Six member of the team earned All-A-Sunhonors, a school and conference record.

At his peak as a player, Peralta held an ATP ranking of 212 inDecember of 2003. He stayed on the ATP Tour for five years and wonboth a Challenger event and many Futures Tournaments. In 2003, heplayed in the French Open qualifiers and played in the 2007 WorldCup with Fernando Gonzales on a Chilean team that went on to beatthe United States at the event.

As a junior, Peralta was ranked in the top 30 in the world in theunder-18 age bracket and held the top ranking in Chile in both theunder-16 and under-18 age groups.

Still active in competitive tennis, Peralta won both the TennesseeValley Open Championship and the William H. Metzger OpenChampionship during the summer of 2009. Peralta also won theCountry Club of Spartanburg Pro Invitational in the summer of 2010and he has spent part of the last two summers also playing in protournaments in Europe.

Peralta is currently working on his degree in businessadministration at the George Dean Johnson, Jr. College of Businessand Economics at USC Upstate.
