USC Upstate Head Coach Tammy George
Opening statement...
"I am very pleased with what we did today. We did a lot of good things. There are a lot of positives we can take from this game. The kids played hard. They didn't quit and kept fighting to the end."
On what she expected from Kentucky tonight...
"Well, we knew from their two exhibition games that they shot the ball pretty well. Our game plan was to make them take tough shots. We weren't sure if Sarah (Elliott) was going to play. We knew they had height on us, so we wanted to make them shoot from the outside."
On Upstate's balanced scoring tonight...
"In years past we have been very one-dimensional. This year's team is balanced in scoring. They are very unselfish. They don't care who scores. They just play together. I am very excited to see that going into Wake Forest."
On the transition to Division I...
"It's going to be an exciting year. We're very excited about this transition move to Division I. What a great team to start against in Kentucky."
On Ebony Johnson's performance tonight...
"Ebony did a great job tonight. She has been fighting injuries all year long. We are just glad to have her back. She is just a spark off of the bench for us."
Junior guard Ebony Johnson
On her team's performance tonight...
"I was very excited about our game tonight. I think we did really well. We did better than a lot of people expected. It was a good confidence-builder for us."
On her expectations for the team this season...
"I expect a lot out of this team. I think we're going to do really well."
Junior guard Courtney Bradley
On her team's performance tonight...
"Well, we just tried hard. We gave it all we had. We were the underdogs, so we just went all out to get the job done."
On opening the second half on a run...
"We were down by a good bit at halftime. We figured we could pick it up and lead by example and try to go all out."
On her expectations for the team this season ...
"We still have some team chemistry to build up our confidence. Once we get that, we will be pretty good. I think we will be hard to stop."
