SPARTANBURG, S.C. - USC Upstate's women's basketball team has a history of success against Limestone, especially at the Hodge Center, where the Spartans haven't lost to the Lady Saints since the two school's first meeting, on Jan. 11, 1985. So, after taking a six-point lead into halftime before losing to IUPUI on Wednesday, perhaps there is no better time than Saturday afternoon to welcome the Saints into the Hodge Center, as Upstate will look to rebound.
The Spartans (1-3 overall) have been led by sophomore Courtney Hawkins, who is averaging 21 points, six rebounds and three steals since entering the starting lineup two games ago. The 5-4 guard is a welcome complement to freshman forward Oceana Jackson, who posted her first career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds against IUPUI. Jackson has at least 10 points in all four Upstate games.
Junior guard Tierney Burdett has led the Lady Saints (2-3 overall) so far this season, averaging 11.2 points per game, posting 10 in their 84-62 win over Queens (N.C.) on Tuesday night. Junior center Addie Graves led Limestone with 15 points. Senior Lindsay Kyle added 12 points, senior Essence Greer posted 11 and senior Ariel Lyons had 10 in the win.
