Cordova, Tenn. - With rain settling over the course at Colonial Country Club outside of Memphis, Tenn., Thursday, half of the field was unable to start their second round in the Southern Amateur Championship. Friday, the second round was completed by mid-afternoon and USC Upstate golfer and Gaffney, S.C., native Josh Gallman stood in a tie for 20th heading into the start of the third round Friday afternoon.
Gallman fired a 3-under-par 69 Thursday and was one of the fortunate players to finish his second round. He is scheduled to begin the third round today at 3:50 pm Central, 4:50 pm Eastern, and will be paired with Dylan Frittelli from South Africa and Jonathan Randolph from Brandon, Miss. The three are in the eighth-to-last pairing of the day. With the final tee time scheduled to tee off at 6:00 pm Eastern, results from the third round may not be complete before darkness sets in at the course, which could push the completion of the third round into Saturday morning with the final round starting shortly after.
Gallman is one of 75 players to make the cut in the tournament. The cut line stood at even par 144. Mark Silvers and Gregor Main share the lead at 10-under heading into the third round. Jonathan Khan is third, one stroke back at 9-under. Gallman will begin the third round six strokes back of the lead at 4-under with the hopes of moving up the leaderboard.
Gallman is making his second appearance in the Southern Amateur, one of the oldest and most prestigious amateur tournaments in the country. He made the cut last year and finished in a tie for 24th.
