First Stage of PGA Q School Leaderboard
Kannapolis, N.C. – Former USC Upstate golfers Josh Gallman (Gaffney, S.C.) and Michael Lawrence (Easley, S.C.) opened play in the First Stage of the 2010 PGA Q School Tuesday at the Club at Irish Creek. Gallman carded a 2-over 73, while Lawrence opened with a 6-over 77.
Gallman and Lawrence were in the same group and teed off on the 10th hole at 10:20 a.m. It marked the first time the two have played in the same group since both turned pro in May after finishing at Upstate. Gallman made par on his first two holes, then made a bogey on the par-4 12th hole. He regrouped to par the next five holes before making bogey on the par-3 18th.
Gallman steadied the ship and, although he didn't make any birdies to lower his round, made nine-straight pars to shoot even on his back nine and keep his score at 2-over for the day.
Lawrence had a more adventurous day. He opened with a bogey on his first hole and made two bogeys, a triple bogey and a birdie on the front nine to go out in 4-over. He made four bogeys and two birdies on his back nine to finish with the 6-over-77.
Gallman is currently tied for 50th at 2-over-par, while Lawrence is tied for 73rd. There are 77 players in the tournament, 39 of which shot even-par or better. The First Stage of PGA Q School will continue Tuesday morning. Gallman and Lawrence will tee off at 9:20 a.m. on the first hole.
