SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate men's basketball forward Ricardo Glenn (Augusta, Ga./Richmond Academy) will miss the next several weeks of action after suffering a fracture to the fourth metacarpal in his left hand in Sunday's game against East Carolina.
Glenn, who has started all five games this season, is averaging 6.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg. He has 35 total rebounds, with 13 of those coming on the offensive glass to go along with four steals and two blocks on the season.
"It is an unfortunate injury for Ricardo, as he has been giving it his all for us," said Upstate head coach Eddie Payne. "He has been a significant factor for our team as a freshman. With this injury, that just means we must have another one of our freshman to step up for us."
In three games at the Charleston Classic, the redshirt freshman averaged 7.3 ppg and 8.0 rpg and nearly recorded his first career double-double as he scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Coastal Carolina (11/19).
"Ricardo suffered an oblique fracture of the fourth metacarpal, which is the bone in the palm of his hand that connects to the ring finger," said Upstate team physician Steve Singleton. "With the injury being an oblique fracture, it normally heals very well without surgery or any type of intervention. After three weeks, we will re-evaluate the injury and normally that is when we allow an individual to start moving his/her hand and begin using a training ball as he/she begins to work toward returning to practice. A week or two later, dribbling, passing and catching is allowed with a week later the individual being cleared to resume normal activity."
The Spartans will return to action tomorrow as they travel to Columbia, S.C., for a 7:00 p.m. game at South Carolina.
