SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's basketball team will get a chance to show off the newly renovated Hodge Center to a regional television audience when they host Lipscomb in the CSS Game of the Week on Monday, January 24, 2010. It will be the first time ever that the Spartans have had a home television game for women's basketball.
The match-up between the Spartans and the Lady Bisons will be the first of six broadcasts for the Atlantic Sun Conference this season.
After winning 20 games last season, the first time since 1994-95, the Spartans look to continue the quick rise since the move to Division I at the beginning of 2007 season. The Monday night match-up will feature the A-Sun Preseason Player of the Year, Chelsea McMillan (East Gadsden, Fla./Santa Fe C.C.) and Preseason First-Team All-Conference selection Tee'Ara Copney (Asheville, N.C./T.C. Roberson).
As a junior, McMillan posted a double-double, averaging 14.2 ppg and 10.8 rpg en route to First-Team All-Conference honors. McMillan scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in Upstate's 88-58 victory over Lipscomb at the Hodge Center on February 11, 2010.
Copney was named the A-Sun Freshman of the Year after a stellar campaign in which she averaged 11.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg and 2.0 apg. She also averaged 2.3 steals per game. In Upstate's first-ever victory over Lipscomb at Allen Arena on January 9, 2010, Copney scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds as the Spartans claimed the 63-51 victory.
In the second meeting of the season, Copney scored 15 points, grabbed five rebounds and made four steals to help the Spartans earn the season sweep.
