
Gallman Shoots 2-Under In Knoxville News Sentinel Open

Farragut, Tenn. – Playing in his first event on the PGA's Nationwide Tour, former USC Upstate golfer and Gaffney, S.C., native Josh Gallman carded a 2-under-par 70 and stands in a tie for 34th heading into Friday's second round of the Knoxville News Sentinel Open at the Fox Den Country Club.
Gallman, who graduated from Upstate in early May and turned pro later that month, is one of 156 players in the tournament. He is playing in his first tournament on the Nationwide Tour after qualifying for with a 65 on Monday.
Gallman opened his round with a birdie on the par-5 first hole and moved to 2-under with a birdie on the par-3 sixth. He took bogey on the par-5 10th, but recovered with a birdie on the par-4 11th. He moved to 3-under for the tournament with a birdie on the par-3 13th-hole. He bogeyed his next hole, the par-4 14th and made par over the final four holes to shoot 70.
Zach Miller, who played at Stanford, opened the tournament with a 6-under 66 to take the lead. He stands one stroke ahead of eight players at 5-under, including two-time major winner John Daly and Kirk Triplett. Nine players turned in 4-under-par 68s on the day, while another 15 shot 3-under 69. Gallman is one of 24 players at 2-under and one of 82 under par for the day.
Gallman will start his second round Friday afternoon at 2:30. Playing partner Russell Knox shot a 4-under 68 Thursday, while his other playing partner, Jason Gandy, opened the tournament with a 4-over 76.
