Pre-Qualifying Tournament Leaderboard
Valdosta, Ga. – Former USC Upstate standout golfer and Gaffney, S.C., native Josh Gallman carded a 73 in the third round of the Pre-Qualifying Tournament for the PGA Q School Thursday afternoon at the Kinderlou Forest Golf Club.
Gallman, who graduated from Upstate in May, is tied for 12th in the tournament at 2-over-par and is just 18 holes away from securing a spot in Q School. The top 41 players and ties will advance to the first stage of Q School. Fellow former Spartan Michael Lawrence shot a 78 Thursday and is tied for 40th in the event.
Gallman teed off on the 10th hole and made par on his first three holes before bogeying the par-4 13th. He made birdie on the par-4 18th to go out in even-par 36. He picked up birdies on the par-5 second and fourth holes to move to 2-under for the round, but made bogey on three of the final five holes to shoot 73. Still, he is in tremendous position to earn a spot into Q School. At 2-over, he is nine strokes ahead of the current cutoff for a qualifying spot.
Lawrence, from Easley, S.C., has his work cut out for himself in order to secure a spot in Q School. He is on the bubble in a tie for 40th at 10-over. He went out in 1-over, but carded a double and triple bogey on his second nine to shoot a 78.
Corey Nagy leads the tournament at 7-under, while Chris Wolfe is second at 6-under.
If either Gallman or Lawrence qualifies for the first stage of Q School, they will play in one of 12 tournaments throughout the United States. The first set of tournaments will be played on Oct. 19-22, the second on Oct. 26-29 and the last set on Oct. 27-30.
