Wallace, N.C. – Gaffney, S.C., native and USC Upstate standout freshman Adam Goins fired back-to-back rounds of 73 Friday afternoon and stands tied for 29th heading into the final round of the River Landing Intercollegiate.
Gions was solid throughout the day and turned in a pair of 1-over-par rounds to lead the USC Upstate men's golf team in the tournament. However, as a team, the Spartans were not able to put enough consistent scores on the leaderboard and stand 14th in the standings after 36 holes.
Upstate turned in rounds of 304 and 301 for a 605 total. The Spartans are three shots behind Old Dominion.
Liberty shot rounds of 278 and 277 for a 555 total to take the lead heading into the final round on Saturday. East Carolina is second at 561 and is followed by Memphis (567), UNC Wilmington (574), North Carolina State (575), Lamar (579), Virginia (581), Jacksonville (583), St. John's (584), Winthrop (585), Maryland (586), Seton Hall (593), Old Dominion (602) and Upstate (605).
Brad Sill (Spartanburg, S.C.) shot rounds of 77 and 75 for a 152 total and is tied for 62nd, while Tyler Comer (Pacolet Mills, S.C.) opened with back-to-back rounds of 76 to tie Sill for 62nd. Matthew Hopper (Gaffney, S.C.) turned in rounds of 78 and 77, while Nelson Dickson (Spartanburg, S.C.) shot back-to-back rounds of 78.
UNC Wilmington's Josh Brock took the lead after 36 holes with rounds of 66 and 67. He stands 11-under-par for the tournament and leads his closest competitors by four strokes.
