Spartanburg, S.C. – A large contingent of USC Upstate golfers descended on the 39th South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship at the Carolina Country Club Wednesday and Thursday. Three Spartans advanced to the match play portion of the championship after finishing in the top 31 upon completion of the 36-hole stroke play qualifying Thursday.
Advancing to the Round of 32 in the match play portion of the tournament were Adam Goins (Gaffney, S.C.), Tyler Comer (Pacolet Mills, S.C.) and Nelson Dickson (Spartanburg, S.C.). Goins, who will be a sophomore at Upstate in the fall, followed up an opening round 71 with a 4-under-par 68 in the second round to finish tied for sixth in the stroke play portion of the tournament. Comer, who will be a junior in the fall, shot his second straight even par round of 72 to finish in a tie for 22nd. Dickson, who played as a senior last year, shot even-par 72 after a 73 on Wednesday to nail down a position in a tie for 29th at 1-over for the qualifying rounds.
