
Dickson in Hunt at Carolinas Amateur Championship

Myrtle Beach, S.C. – USC Upstate golfer and Spartanburg native Nelson Dickson remained in the hunt for the Carolinas Amateur Championship after the second round on Friday, shooting a 74 on the renowned Dunes Golf and Beach Club course.
Dickson, who is waiting on a ruling by the NCAA on his appeal for another year of eligibility, stands even par for the tournament. He is just five strokes out of the lead.
Dickson traded birdies and pars on the front nine, recording birdie on the par-5 fourth and the par-5 eighth holes, but taking bogey on the par-3 fifth and par-3 ninth holes. He made the turn at even par for the round and 2-under for the tournament.
After making birdie on the par-4 10th, he recorded a double bogey on the par-4 11th and a bogey on the par-5 13th to come in at 2-over on the back nine and for the round.
Dickson is tied for 16th with six other players. Brock Elder leads the tournament at 5-under-par. He vaulted into the lead after shooting a 67 on Friday. Matth Yelverton is second at 4-under, while two players are at 3-under. Five players stand 2-under after 36 holes, while six are at 1-under.
