Spartanburg, S.C. – For the second time this season and the third time in his career, standout USC Upstate men's golfer and Gaffney, S.C., native Adam Goins has been named the A-Sun Golfer of the Week.
Goins was named the golfer of the week in the conference after tying for second at the Stetson/CFSC Invitational that wrapped up Tuesday. Goins actually tied for the tournament lead after regulation play, but lost the individual championship in a three-man playoff.
Goins shot rounds of 69, 72 and 73 to finish at 2-under-par for the tournament. There were four total conference schools in the event and he claimed second ahead of every other A-Sun player in the tournament.
"Adam continues to be a leader on the golf course for us and an example of how to work hard and learn your way around the golf course to be at his best," said Upstate head coach Todd Lawton. "He is motivated to succeed and to be compared with the career best players in the program."
Goins and Upstate closed out the fall on a high note. The Spartans led after the first day of the tournament before settling for fourth place in the tournament. Goins led the way with his second-place finish. It was his second Top 5 finish of the season after posting a win at the Rutgers Invitational while leading the Spartans to the team championship. Goins finished the fall season with a 74.6 stroke average in four tournaments.
