Upstate Finishes 10th at Coca-Cola Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's golf team shot a 298 in the final round of the Coca-Cola Invitational at the Country Club of Spartanburg and maintained its position to finish 10th Tuesday afternoon.
Upstate placed two players in the top 25 on the individual leaderboard. Adam Goins (Gaffney, S.C.) finished tied for 21st, while Brian Horton (Boiling Springs, S.C.) was tied for 25th.
Upstate entered the final round tied for 10th in the tournament. Playing with Appalachian State and Davidson, the Spartans kept their playing partners behind them, but could not make up any ground on the rest of the field, settling for a 10th-place finish.
Charleston Southern, the overnight leader, shot a 279 in the final round to win the team championship with an 841 total. The Buccaneers were followed by ETSU (851), Campbell (861), Wofford (869), Longwood (870), Richmond (871), Gardner-Webb (871), Samford (872), High Point (872), Upstate (884), Radford (885), Davidson (888), Appalachian State (892), Presbyterian College (893), Wofford B (894), Elon (895), Stetson (897) and James Madison (900).
Goins claimed a tie for 21st when he shot a 75 on Tuesday to finish with a 218 total. Horton was tied for 25th with a 219 total following a 75 in the final round.
Tyler Comer (Spartanburg, S.C.) tied Horton and Goins on the day and finished as the third-lowest Spartan in the tournament with a 226 total. He finished tied for 56th. Brad Sill (Spartanburg, S.C.) shot the lowest round of the day for Upstate, carding a 73. He finished tied for 64th with a 227 total. Matthew Hopper (Gaffney, S.C.) finished tied for 71st with a 228 total.
Campbell's Vaita Guillaume won the individual tournament title with a 12-under-par 204 total. He won the championship by one stroke.
Upstate will now turn its attention to next week's A-Sun Championships. The tournament will be played at Chateau Elan in Georgia.
