Spartanburg, S.C. – After picking up six A-Sun accolades when the league named its individual and all-conference team honors Tuesday, USC Upstate earned another individual recognition as senior outfielder Tyler Cook has been named an A-Sun Academic All-Conference selection.
Cook, a senior from Bloomington, Ill., was the only Spartan to earn Academic All-Conference honors from the A-Sun. He is one of 13 honorees in the conference. Jacksonville's Dan Gulbransen was named the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Cook has played in 44 games for the Spartans, 37 as a starter. He ranks fifth on the team with a .295 batting average. He has scored 22 runs and driven in another 20 to go along with four doubles on the season. A strong defensive player, he owns a .970 fielding percentage, committing just two errors. His leadership helped pace the Spartans to a 33-win regular season and the No. 2 seed in the A-Sun Tournament, which starts today.
Cook graduated in May with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He carried a 3.74 GPA at Upstate and will further his academic pursuits this fall at Belmont while pursuing a master's degree in Sport Administration. Cook served as the Vice President of Upstate's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and was active in leading the student leadership group.
