
Sobotka Earns Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. – USC Upstate relief pitcher Chad Sobotka (Sarasota, Fla.) was named to the 2012 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team as announced by College Baseball Newspaper.
Sobotka made 25 appearances this season, while collecting 12 saves to rank second in the Atlantic Sun. The Spartan righty finished his rookie campaign with a 3-0 record and a 1.72 ERA, fanning 34 batters and walking 16 in 31.1 innings. He boasts an opposing batting average of .196.
"We are all very pleased and excited that Chad was named to the Freshman All-American team," said head coach Matt Fincher. "He had an outstanding season and was a big reason why our team was able to perform well this spring. Being named to the team is a tremendous honor and richly deserved."
Also this season, the Upstate closer was an A-Sun All-Freshman selection and was named to the Stopper of the Year Midseason Watch List by the National College Baseball Writers Association. Sobotka earned six key saves in conference wins over Lipscomb (2), North Florida, East Tennessee State, Jacksonville and Kennesaw State to help the Spartans stay at the top of the league standings throughout the year.
