
Upstate Set to Face South Carolina State Tuesday Night

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team will wrap up a brief two-game home stand Tuesday evening as it hosts the South Carolina State Lady Bulldogs at 7 p.m. inside the Hodge Center.
The Spartans head into the midweek matchup 2-3 overall while South Carolina State is 0-1 on the season.
Upstate opened its two-game home stretch Sunday afternoon with a 75-71 defeat to College of Charleston. Sharmayne Edwards led all scorers with a game-high 17 points after going 7-of-12 from the floor while pulling down six rebounds. She was joined in double-figures by Brittany Starling with 12 points and Raven Jefferson with 11. Starling tied Edwards for the team-lead with six rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs opened their season last Friday with a 72-63 loss at UNC-Greensboro. Four South Carolina State players scored in double-figures led by Kourtney Williams' game-high 22 points with six rebounds. DayShaun Richbow contributed 13 points, while Cabriel Duren added 11 and Persephone "Ci-Ci" Goodwin had 10. Goodwin had a team-high seven rebounds.
The Spartans lead the all-time series over the Lady Bulldogs 2-1. The two teams first met in 1976-77 as South Carolina State won 109-45 in Orangeburg. Upstate has won the last two meetings in the series. The Spartans were victorious 90-80 in Spartanburg in 2008-09, and 88-53 in Orangeburg during the 2009-10 season.
Upstate will hit the road for the next five games beginning Monday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. against George Washington.
