
Spartans Host North Greenville to Close 2013

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team wraps up its non-conference portion of the schedule Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. when the Spartans host North Greenville from the Hodge Center.
The Spartans enter play with a 6-6 overall record and are coming off a heartbreaking 81-76 loss Dec. 21 at Charlotte. Upstate trailed by as many as 22 points in the second half and came all the way back to take the lead with less than three minutes to play, but Charlotte was able to regain the lead and hit free throws in the final seconds to earn the win.
Senior forward Torrey Craig scored a game-high 26 points and hit five three-pointers to tie Nathan Norman for the most treys in school history with 255. Craig needs one three-pointer against North Greenville to become the school's all-time leader with 256. In addition, Craig ranks first in the A-Sun with 18.4 points per game and 7.0 rebounds per game.
Ty Greene ranks sixth in the conference with 14.5 points per game and stands fourth in the nation with a 4.0 assist/turnover ratio. Greene has committed just 10 turnovers this season in a team-high 425 minutes of action. Senior Ricardo Glenn, who was just selected as the College Sports Madness A-Sun Player of the Week, ranks 14th in the league with 11.8 points per game.
USC Upstate and North Greenville will be meeting on the hardwood for the seventh time when the two teams tipoff Tuesday afternoon. The Spartans are 6-0 against North Greenville in the all-time series that dates back to the 1995-96 season. Upstate and North Greenville have not met since the Spartans claimed an 85-65 win during the 2004-05 season. Each of the previous six games with the Crusaders have been played inside the Hodge Center.
