
Resurgent Spartans Hit the Links at the Charleston Shootout

Spartanburg, S.C. – Coming off a solid performance at Augusta State's Forest Hills Intercollegiate, the USC Upstate men's golf team will head back to the links Monday and Tuesday for the Charleston Shootout at the Links at Stono Ferry.
The Charleston Shootout is the second of three tournaments Upstate will play in the span of 17 days. Upstate finished tied for third in the Forest Hills Intercollegiate on Feb. 23 and will start in the Sacramento State Collegiate a week from Monday.
The Links at Stono Ferry is the site for this week's Charleston Shootout. The course plays at 7,000 yards and is a par-72 layout. The College of Charleston is the host of the tournament, which will consist of a 14-team field. Four of the teams in the field are ranked in the Top 100 in the country, including No. 22 Clemson. Joining College of Charleston (#98) and Upstate in the tournament is Bethune-Cookman, Clemson (#22), Coastal Carolina (#48), Connecticut, Fairleigh Dickinson, High Point, Hoftsra, Liberty (#49), Loyola, Navy, Sam Houston State and Stetson. Upstate and Stetson are the only two A-Sun teams in the field.
Upstate head coach Todd Lawton will send the lineup of Danny Brock, Ryan Cornfield, Adam Goins, Brian Horton and Brad Sill into action this week. Sebastian Lopez Bulla will play as an individual. Brock is making his first appearance in a tournament this year. The junior has played in three career events. Cornfield returns to the lineup after playing as an individual last week at Forest Hills. He has played in every tournament this season and is second on the team with a 75.5 stroke average. Goins has also played in every tournament this year and tops the Spartans with a 75.4 stroke average. Horton has played in all but one tournament this year, while Sill is coming off winning the Forest Hills Intercollegiate and has played in every event for Upstate this season.
