Spartans Finish 9th at Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – Entering the day in a tie for 12th, the USC Upstate men's golf team turned in the fifth-lowest score of the day, a 292, to climb three positions on the leaderboard and finish ninth in the Coca-Cola Wofford invitational Tuesday afternoon at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
Upstate finished the tournament with an 878 total, just two strokes out of eighth place and five out of seventh. The Spartans turned in rounds of 298, 288 and 292 in the tournament. Upstate will now turn its attention to next week's A-Sun Championship played at the Chateau Elan Golf Resort in Georgia.
ETSU rallied with a 288 on Tuesday to claim the tournament championship with an 853 total. The Buccaneers, one of three A-Sun schools in the tournament along with Upstate and Stetson, jumped over Wofford for the title. The host Terriers finished second with an 855 total and were followed on the leaderboard by Radford (861), Appalachian State (862), Elon (862), Presbyterian (869), Winthrop (873), James Madison (876), Upstate (878), Gardner-Webb (884), Furman (886), Charleston Southern (887), Western Carolina (889), High Point (890), Longwood (906) and Stetson (908). The Spartans jumped over Furman, Gardner-Webb and Western Carolina on the leaderboard Tuesday.
Adam Goins (Gaffney, S.C.) led the way for Upstate, finishing 15th with an even-par 216 total after shooting all three rounds at 72 to show remarkable consistency. Sebastian Lopez Bulla (Bogota, Colombia), playing in his third event of the year for Upstate, matched Goins' 72 in the final round and claimed his first-ever Top 20 finish. He was tied for 20th with a 218 total after shooting rounds of 75, 71 and 72.
Ryan Cornfield (Dudley, England) was the third-best Spartan in the tournament. He finished tied for 44th after shooting 222 over 54 holes and turned in a 75 on Tuesday. Brian Horton (Boiling Springs, S.C.), who will play the final tournament of his college career at the A-Sun Championships next week, carded a 76 on Tuesday and finished tied for 56th with a 225 total. McKenzie Oref (Easley, S.C.), who is also a senior winding down his college career, shot the third-best round of the day for Upstate, a 73, and finished with a 230 total.
Appalachian State's Caleb Keck shot an even-par 72 Tuesday and won the individual championship with a 7-under-par 209 total. He won by a single stroke over Wofford's Charles Moore.
