Spartanburg, S.C. – Two-for-two. That has been a commonality for the USC Upstate men's golf team and standout golfer Ryan Cornfield so far this season. After leading the team to its second tournament championship in as many tournaments and claiming his second consecutive second place finish, Cornfield has been named the A-Sun Golfer of the Week for the second straight week.
Cornfield, a sophomore from Dudley, England, earned golfer of the week honors from the A-Sun this week after leading the Spartans to the team championship at the Rutgers Invitational last weekend. Cornfield posted a 2-under-par total for the tournament to finish tied for second. His 68 in the final round helped Upstate erase a two-stroke defect heading into the final round to win by two strokes. He posted rounds of 70, 73 and 68 for a 211 finish on the par-71 course.
Cornfield was named the A-Sun Golfer of the Week last week after leading Upstate to the team championship at the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate. He finished tied for second in that tournament as well. He has posted four of six rounds under par this season and owns a 70 scoring average, more than four strokes better than his career average.
"There are plenty of great players in the A-Sun conference and I know that Ryan is honored to receive this award again," said Upstate head coach Todd Lawton. "He is a passionate player and tireless worker."
