
Spartans Set for First Appearance in Wolfpack Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – Coming off a solid third-place performance at the Badger Invitational which wrapped up last Tuesday, the USC Upstate men's golf team will play in its third tournament of the season when it tees off at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate hosted by N.C. State in Raleigh, N.C., Oct. 6-7.
Upstate shot rounds of 294, 293 and 293 to finish third in the 13-team Badger Invitational with Taylor White battling for the individual championship before finishing second by one stroke. The Spartans will look to keep it rolling as Upstate makes its first appearance in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
The Wolfpack Intercollegiate is a 54-hole event with 36 holes played on Monday and the final round on Tuesday. Upstate and N.C. State will be two of 18 teams in the field that also includes Boston College, Bowling Green State, Campbell, East Carolina, East Tennessee State, George Washington, Georgia Southern, Lipscomb, Loyola,(Md.), N.C. State "B", Rhode Island, Seton Hall, Temple, UNC Greensboro and Wofford. Five of the teams in the field are ranked in the Top 100 in the latest Golfweek rankings with ETSU coming in at No. 30, East Carolina at No. 32, Georgia Southern at No. 58, UNC Greensboro at No. 67 and N.C. State at No. 71. In all, nine of the 18 teams are ranked in the Top 150.
Upstate head coach Todd Lawton will send the lineup of Ryan Cornfield, Taylor White, Sebastian Lopez Bulla, Season Hassell and Andrew Purcell into action at the Wolfpack. Cornfield, White, Lopez Bulla and Hassell have all played in the first two tournaments of the season, while sophomore Purcell is making his collegiate debut. The team is averaging 300.7 on the year with Cornfield and White leading the way with 73 and 74 stroke averages.
