
Upstate Concludes Season-Opening Road Trip Sunday at Iowa State

Ames, Iowa – The USC Upstate women's basketball team heads to Ames, Iowa Sunday afternoon to face the Iowa State Hawkeyes at 1:30 p.m. inside Hilton Coliseum to finish a two-game road trip to begin the 2014-15 season.
Upstate started the season Friday night in Iowa City, Iowa as it fell to the 19th-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes 107-56. Coco Ritter, playing in her first collegiate game, scored a team-high 11 points for the Spartans on 5-of-6 shooting while Shelby Hicks led the team with seven rebounds. Brittany Starling came off the bench to score nine points and Travonda Haddock chipped in eight. Brittany Clency dished out four assists.
Iowa State opens its year Sunday against Upstate after appearing in the NCAA Tournament last season. The Cyclones had a 20-11 overall record and finished tied for fifth, along with Oklahoma, in the Big 12 at 9-9. Iowa State returns four starters from last season led by senior guard Nikki Moody, who is the team's leading returning scorer with 12.5 points per game. She currently ranks second nationally in career-active assists at 534. Other returning starters are Brynn Williamson, Seanna Johnson and Jadda Buckley.
The Cyclones are under the direction of 20th-year head coach Bill Fennelly. He is 416-192 during his tenure at Iowa State and 582-245 in 27 seasons as a head coach.
The Spartans and Cyclones are meeting for the first time on the hardwood Sunday.
Upstate returns to the Hodge Center Tuesday evening to host Converse College at 7 p.m. in its home opener.
