
Upstate Entertains Brevard College Sunday Afternoon

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team welcomes the Brevard College Tornados to the Hodge Center Sunday afternoon for a 3 p.m. non-conference game.
The Spartans enter the game with a 3-3 record while Brevard is 0-2 overall. The Tornados are set to play at North Georgia Saturday afternoon prior to their game in Spartanburg.
Upstate saw its three-game winning streak come to an end last Tuesday in a 60-50 loss at South Carolina State. Raven Jefferson scored a season-high 11 points to lead the Spartans offensively while Brittany Starling grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Brittany Clency and Maddie Herr each contributed eight points, while Starling and Shelby Hicks had seven points apiece.
Starling and Sharmayne Edwards lead the Upstate offense this season as both are averaging over 10 points per game. Edwards has poured in a team-best 12.7 points per game so far while Starling is scoring 11.3 points. Starling pulls down a team-leading 8.0 rebounds per contest while shooting 47.4% from the field.
The Spartans enter the weekend leading the A-Sun in offensive rebounds, are second in rebounding and steals, and third in scoring.
Brevard is under the direction of seventh-year head coach Shannon Reid, who has a 41-122 all-time record with the program. The Tornados began the season with a 76-49 loss at Newberry before dropping their home opener in overtime to Tusculum 86-75. Katie Williams and Madison Lenox are both averaging in double-figures led by Williams with 19.5 points per game. Lenox adds 14.5 points and a team-leading 3.0 assists per game. Williams also leads the team in rebounding with 9.5 per game.
Upstate and Brevard are meeting for the first time this weekend.
The Spartans hit the road Tuesday night for a 7 p.m. matchup against Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
