
Upstate Heads to Alabama Tuesday Night

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team starts a two-game road trip Tuesday evening when it travels to face the Alabama Crimson Tide at 7 p.m. EST from Foster Auditorium.
The Spartans improved their record to 4-3 Sunday afternoon after cruising to a 72-44 victory at home against Brevard College. Upstate had four players score in double-figures led by a game-high 13 points from Sharmayne Edwards. Raven Jefferson added 12 points, while Brittany Starling and Kristen Dickerson had 10 each. Jefferson set three new career-highs Sunday in rebounds (7), steals (6) and made free-throws (3).
Against Brevard, the Spartans forced a season-high 33 turnovers leading to a 32-12 advantage in points off turnovers. Upstate also held an opponent to its lowest point total of the season as Brevard was limited to just 19 points in the second half.
Edwards and Starling are both averaging over 10 points per game this season for the Spartans as Edwards leads the team with 12.7 per contest. Starling chips in 11.1 points per game and averages a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 48.4% from the field. Brittany Clency dishes out a team-best 3.9 assists per game.
As a team, Upstate leads the A-Sun in rebounds, offensive rebounds and steals, and is second in scoring. The Spartans are averaging 69.4 points per game and allowing opponents to 70.3 per contest.
Alabama currently sits at 5-3 on the season after falling to Quinnipiac 73-66 on Sunday during the Hall of Fame Women's Challenge. The Crimson Tide are scoring 64.8 points per game and giving up 63.0 to opponents. Ashley Williams leads Alabama with 19.4 points while grabbing a team-high 7.5 rebounds per contest. Hannah Cook also averages 11.6 points per game.
The Crimson Tide are led by second-year head coach Kristy Curry. She has a 19-19 record at the school and is 328-168 during her career.
Upstate is taking on Alabama for the first time in program history.
