Cornfield Leads Upstate at Wofford Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – Ryan Cornfield fired rounds of 70 and 68 and is tied for seventh with a 6-under-par 138 total to lead the USC Upstate men's golf team on the first day of the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational Monday at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
Cornfield finished the day with 10 birdies and an eagle en route to finishing the day at 6-under. He will begin Tuesday's final round five shots out of the individual lead held by Elon's John Somers at 133.
Elon shot rounds of 274 and 272 and leads the tournament with a 30-under-par 546 total. Lamar is second at 557 and is followed by Wofford (558), Gardner-Webb (565), No. 50 TCU (565), Radford (568), Longwood (570), Appalachian State (570), Upstate (577), Francis Marion (579), James Madison (580), Presbyterian (584), Stetson (584), Western Carolina (584) and High Point (597).
Upstate opened the tournament with a 290 in the first round as Cornfield led the way with a 2-under 70. He posted four birdies and an eagle during the round. Sebastian Lopez Bulla opened with a 72 after posting three birdies and three bogeys. Taylor White had three birdies in his round and opened with a 73, while Sean Hassell made four birdies and posted a 75 for the fourth countable score. Adam Goins carded a 76.
Upstate used Cornfield's 68 to post a 287 in the second round of the tournament. He made six birdies to shoot the 4-under round. White had a remarkably consistent round in his second 18, posting an eagle, two bogeys and 15 pars to shoot 72. Lopez Bulla converted two birdies on the front nine and shot a 73, while Goins rallied to shoot 74 with three birdies. Hassell shot a 77 with four birdies in his round.
Lopez Bulla and White are tied for 37th with a 145 total, while Goins stands tied for 69th with a 150 total. Hassell owns a 152 total and is tied for 78th. Danny Brock is playing as an individual and is tied for 61st after rounds of 73 and 76. He posted six birdies and two eagles in his two rounds Monday.
