Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate baseball team opens a seven-game road trip and a string of three games in three days Monday at 5 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Asheville, N.C., to take on UNC Asheville from Greenwood Baseball Field.
Upstate will also take part in non-conference games Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Wofford and Wednesday at 7 p.m. at South Carolina. Fans unable to make the trip east to Columbia, S.C., will be able to watch Wednesday's game with the Gamecocks on Fox Sports South.
Senior left-hander David Roseboom is expected to draw the starting pitching assignment against UNC Asheville and will be coming off a performance in which he threw a league-high 10.2 innings in his last start at Northern Kentucky. Roseboom struck out seven Norse and enters his start against UNC Asheville needing just six more to move into third place all-time at Upstate.
The Spartans enter the week having won four of their last seven games and two straight outside of Atlantic Sun play. Senior right fielder Tyler Lesch continues to serve as the offensive catalyst for the Spartans, as the St. Cloud, Fla., native leads the team with a .314 batting average and a .391 on-base percentage.
Catcher Luke Weber picked up four hits over the weekend against Kennesaw State and upped his career total to 231, leaving the Spartanburg native needing just two more to move into sixth place all-time at Upstate.
USC Upstate and UNC Asheville will be meeting on the diamond for the 19th time when the two schools face off Tuesday. Upstate is 12-6 all-time and 4-5 at Greenwood Baseball Field against the Bulldogs. Earlier this year, UNC Asheville defeated Upstate 2-1 to earn its first win in nine games at Harley Parl. Despite the loss, Upstate has won four of the last six games with UNC Asheville.
