
Upstate Begins Three-Game Road Trip at IPFW, Michigan

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team will look to keep its winning streak going on the road as the Spartans begin a three-game swing away from the Hodge Center against the IPFW Mastodons and Michigan Wolverines in non-conference action.
Upstate travels to IPFW Saturday afternoon for a 12 p.m. opening tip before heading north to Ann Arbor, Mich. to face Michigan at 7 p.m. Monday evening.
The Spartans have won their last two games, both at home, after defeating Bob Jones and Southern Wesleyan this week. Upstate opened its home season Tuesday night with a 96-46 win over Bob Jones before topping Southern Wesleyan 84-51 last night.
Brittany Starling recorded her second double-double of the season on Thursday with a game-high 28 points and 16 rebounds; while Kristen Dickerson added 18 points and six rebounds, and setting career-highs with five assists and five steals. Raven Jefferson also set a career-high in assists with seven.
Against Bob Jones, Starling compiled 24 points and nine rebounds while tying her career-high of 12 free throws after going 12-for-14 at the line. Tamera Thorpe contributed a career-high 13 points and Jefferson posted 12. Rose Robinson also dished out six assists.
Entering Saturday's game at IPFW, Upstate currently leads the A-Sun in rebounding, offensive rebounds and blocks, and is second in scoring. Starling ranks first in the conference in scoring at 20.8 points per game, and is second in rebounding (12.5) and fifth in field goal percentage (60.4%). Dickerson is also seventh in the league in field goal percentage at 51.5%. Jefferson sits seventh in the conference in assists per game (3.5) while Travonda Haddock is tied for eighth (3.0).
IPFW is undefeated this season at 3-0 after earning victories over Trine, Grace (Ind.) and Kent State. Michigan also sits at 3-0 overall after picking up wins against Binghamton, Detroit and Xavier. The Spartans hold a 1-0 lead in the all-time series over IPFW after an 85-73 victory last season in Spartanburg, and are facing Michigan for the first time in program history.
