
Upstate Wraps Up Road Trip at North Carolina

Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's basketball team will look to complete a perfect road trip on Wednesday as the Spartans take on North Carolina at 4 p.m.
Upstate enters Wednesday's game with a 6-5 record following an 86-72 victory at Morehead State on Monday afternoon. Brittany Starling recorded her second straight double-double, scoring 26 points while pulling down 19 rebounds. Brittany Clency scored 20 points, followed by Tamera Thorpe with 12 points and DeNisha Swain with a career-high 10 points. The Spartans forced 34 turnovers in the win, which is the third-highest single-game mark in the Division I era.
Starling leads the Atlantic Sun in total rebounds and ranks eighth among NCAA Division I players in rebounds per game. She is second in the league in scoring and third in free throws. Travonda Haddock leads the conference in blocks. Clency is fourth in the conference in free throw percentage (86.2%), followed by Thorpe in fifth (83.3%). Raven Jefferson is sixth in the conference in steals.
The Spartans sit atop several statistical categories in the A-Sun. Upstate leads the conference in rebounding, offensive rebounds, free throws made, free throws attempted, field goal attempts and blocks while ranked second in scoring.
North Carolina is 6-5 following a 77-67 loss at Oklahoma State on Monday evening. The Tar Heels are led offensively by Destinee Walker and Jamie Cherry, who average 15.5 and 15.4 points per game, respectively. Hillary Summers is the top rebounder on the team, averaging eight rebounds per game. Slyvia Hatchell is in her 30th year as head coach of the Tar Heels
Wednesday's contest is the second all-time between the schools. North Carolina won the initial meeting 91-34 on Nov. 13, 2011.
