
Spartans Return Home to Battle North Carolina Central

Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's basketball team returns to the Hodge Center on Saturday at 2 p.m. against North Carolina Central in a non-conference matchup.
Upstate enters Saturday's game with a 6-6 record after the Spartans split a pair of road games earlier this week, defeating Morehead State 86-72 on Monday before falling to North Carolina 80-40 on Wednesday. North Carolina held Upstate to season lows in scoring and field goal percentage. Brittany Starling has posted three consecutive double-doubles and has averaged 17 points and 15.3 rebounds during that stretch.
Starling leads the Atlantic Sun in offensive rebounds, total rebounds and is second in the league in scoring. She ranks eighth among NCAA Division I players in rebounds per game. Travonda Haddock leads the A-Sun in blocks while Brittany Clency in second place in free throw percentage. Raven Jefferson ranks ninth in the league in steals.
The Spartans lead the A-Sun in offensive rebounds, free throws attempted, field goal attempts and blocks and are ranked second in scoring and rebounding.
North Carolina Central sits at 1-7 following a 60-37 defeat at Wofford on Wednesday. Tisha Dixon leads the Lady Eagles in scoring and rebounding. Saturday's game is the fifth all-time meeting and first between the schools since Dec. 30, 2004 when both were members of NCAA Division II.
The Spartans will take a break for Christmas before returning to the Hodge Center on Dec. 30 for a 5 p.m. contest against Mars Hill.
