Greensboro, N.C. – USC Upstate men's golfer Trey Taylor shot a 3-under-par 69 in the final round of the Carolinas Golf Association (CGA) Amateur Championship on the Farm Course at the Greensboro Country Club Sunday afternoon.
Taylor, from Gaffney, S.C., opened the CGA Amateur with rounds of 71 and 73 to shoot even after 36 holes and make the cut for the weekend. After shooting 77 on Saturday, he came back with a strong 69 on Sunday. He finished the tournament tied for 54th out of 157 players who started the tournament. He was also one of 61 players to make the cut for the weekend.
Taylor is a rising junior at Upstate. He saw action in seven tournaments last year for the Spartans and lowered his stroke average by nearly three strokes from his freshman season. He ranked fifth on the team in stroke average and shot in the 70's in seven of his final nine rounds of the season. He was also strong academically and was named to the A-Sun All-Academic team.
