Upstate Eighth after First Round at Badger Invitational

Madison, Wisc. – The USC Upstate men's golf team currently sits in eighth place after shooting an opening round 300 on Sunday at the Badger Invitational from University Ridge Golf Course.
A total of eight strokes separate positions four through eleven with Upstate sitting two back of seventh-place Butler (298). Miami (Ohio) leads the team standings behind a first round score of 278 followed by Kansas in second place with a 283. Ball State (289) is currently third, and Illinois State (295) and Rutgers (296) are fourth and fifth, respectively. William & Mary (297) sits one stroke ahead of Butler in sixth place. Rounding out the team standings are Western Carolina (301), Wisconsin (302), Drake (303) and Texas Rio Grande Valley (313).
Taylor White turned in the top individual performance for the Spartans on Sunday after carding a 74 (+2) and is tied for 23rd place. White posted two birdies on the front nine before recording three bogeys over a stretch of five holes. He finished on a strong note by logging two birdies during the final three holes including one on the 18th.
Ryan Cornfield and Sebastian Lopez Bulla are both one stroke back of White in a tie for 31st place as the duo had rounds of 75 (+3). Cornfield finished the last three holes identical to White by going 2-under with birdies on the 16th and 18th. Lopez Bulla was 1-under after a birdie on the 16th hole before finishing with back-to-back pars.
Tom Schofield and Trey Taylor conclude the individual standings for Upstate in 39th and 68th places. Schofield tallied a first round score of 76 (+4) and recorded the team's only eagle of the day at the par 5 16th hole. Taylor compiled one birdie and ended the day with an 80 (+8).
Patrick Flavin and Greg Conrad of Miami (Ohio) are tied for the overall lead after finishing with scores of 68 (-4).
The second round of the Badger Invitational will begin at 9 a.m. Monday morning.
