
Spartans Renew Series with Gardner-Webb on Saturday

Spartanburg, S.C.- Following a nearly nine-year absence, the USC Upstate women's basketball team will renew its series with Gardner-Webb on Saturday as the Runnin' Bulldogs make the trip to the Hodge Center for a 2 p.m. matchup.
Upstate is 3-3 following a 91-53 win over Warren Wilson on Wednesday. The Spartans erased an 18-10 deficit after the first quarter by scoring 81 points in the final three quarters. DeNisha Swain scored a career-high 15 points while Riley Popplewell matched a career-high with 15 points. Bailey Wensler scored a career-best 14 points and was 4-for-6 from behind the 3-point line. Popplewell and Raven Jefferson each pulled down nine rebounds.
Gardner-Webb is 2-3 following a 75-66 loss at Wofford on Tuesday. Tierra Huntsman leads the team with an average of 15.8 points per game followed by Evelyn Adebayo with 10.0 points per game. Charlisa Jenkins is the top rebounder with 9.0 rebounds per game.
Saturday's game is the first since the 2007-08 season that saw the Runnin' Bulldogs sweep a pair of matchups with the last game taking place on Feb. 23, 2008. Gardner-Webb leads the all-time series 4-3 and has won the previous four games.
