
Spartans Host Big South Opponents for Pair of Games

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team will host a pair of Big South Conference foes this week as the Spartans welcome Campbell to the Hodge Center for a 7 p.m. contest on Thursday followed by a visit from UNC Asheville at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Upstate is 5-6 following a 73-67 overtime victory at South Carolina State on Monday. DeNisha Swain led four Spartans in double figures with a career-high 19 points and a career-best eight assists. Raven Jefferson scored 14 points with nine points occurring in overtime. Bailey Wensler (12) and Vanessa Agrusa (10) also finished in double figures. Tamera Thorpe pulled down a career-high eight rebounds.
Campbell is 4-3 following a 69-33 victory over St. Augustine's on Tuesday morning. The Camels are led by Summer Price, who is averaging 11.9 points per game. Brianna Cribb, Taya Bolden and Hannah Long are each averaging over six rebounds per game. The Camels are led by Ronnie Fisher who is in his first season at the school and ninth overall. Thursday is the ninth all-time meeting between the schools and first since Campbell departed the ASUN at the conclusion of the 2010-11 season. The Camels lead the all-time series 5-3 and won the last meeting 98-70 on Feb. 26, 2011.
UNC Asheville is 5-2 following an 84-65 home victory over Wofford on Saturday. Tiana Kunckles leads the Bulldogs with an average of 12.4 points per game with Khalia Webb (12.1 points per game) and Chatori Major (10.4 points per game) also averaging double figures. KJ Weaver is the leading rebounder with 7.3 rebounds per game. Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick is in her fifth season at UNC Asheville and is 53-80 overall. UNC Asheville leads the all-time series 7-5 following a 68-59 victory at Kimmel Arena last season.
