
Spartans Close Out 2016 with Visit from Maryland Eastern Shore

Spartanburg, S.C. – After nearly a two week break for Christmas, the USC Upstate women's basketball team returns to the court on Friday afternoon as they host Maryland Eastern Shore at 5 p.m.
Upstate is 5-8 following a 70-59 home loss to UNC Asheville on December 17. The Spartans trailed by 18 points with 4:37 remaining and trimmed the Bulldog lead to seven points but were unable to finish the comeback. Raven Jefferson led Upstate with 18 points and has been the leading scorer in six games this season. She ranks fifth in the ASUN with 12.4 points per game.
Maryland Eastern Shore is 6-4 after a 60-50 loss at Virginia on Dec. 21. The Hawks are led by Ciani Byrom's 15.4 points per game, with Moengaroa Subritzky (12.3 ppg) and Mariah McCoy (10.1 ppg) also averaging double figures. Subritzky is the leading rebounder with 7.3 rebounds per game. Fred Batchelor is in his 13th season behind the bench with a record of 156-208 at the school.
Upstate leads the all-time series 2-1 following a 78-59 win for the Hawks on Nov. 15, 2015 in Princess Anne, Md.
