Upstate Tied for Second after Opening Two Rounds of Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's golf team shot a season-low 279 in the first round followed by a 287 during the second on Monday and is tied for second place heading into Tuesday's final round at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational from the par-72, 6,648-yard Country Club of Spartanburg.
The 279 tops the 281 turned in by Upstate in the second round of the Furman Intercollegiate last month. The 287 is tied for the third-lowest round of the season. The Spartans are tied for second place in the team standings with host Wofford and are within two strokes of first day leader Gardner-Webb at 10-under 566.
After opening the tournament with a 70 in the first round, Sebastian Lopez Bulla added a season-best 69 in the second to lead Upstate individually through two rounds at 5-under 139. Lopez Bulla is within one stroke of second place. The senior is tied with teammate Ryan Cornfield for third in tournament play with 11 birdies and is 8-under on par-5 scoring.
Cornfield ends day one of the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational tied for 11th place after shooting a 3-under 141 (67-74) on Monday. The 67 turned in by Cornfield during the first round is second-best by a Spartan this season after he carded a 64 to conclude play at the Furman Intercollegiate.
Trey Taylor posted rounds of 71 and 72 on Monday, and is the third Upstate golfer positioned in the top 20 following first day action. Taylor is tied for 19th at 1-under 143 after recording 22 pars and one eagle on the day.
Tom Schofield is tied for the lead in par-3 scoring with a 1-under score and stroke average of 2.88. Schofield currently sits tied for 25th place at even-par 144 (72-72). Taylor White rounds out the standings for the Spartans tied for 43rd with a two-round score of 3-over 147.
Playing as individuals, Matt Carter and Andrew Purcell are in 68th and 87th place, respectively. Carter is tied for 68th at 152 (79-73) and Purcell 87th with a 161 (85-76).
Gardner-Webb's Vincent Blanchette leads the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational after turning in an 11-under 133.
The final round of the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational will tee off at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
