Cornfield Honored as Unanimous First Team All-Conference Selection

Macon, Ga. – USC Upstate senior Ryan Cornfield was one of three A-Sun men's golfers to be voted a unanimous First Team All-Conference selection on Thursday afternoon as selected by the league's head coaches.
Cornfield joins Jacksonville's David Wicks and Dawson Armstrong as the three unanimous A-Sun First Team All-Conference honorees. Two other golfers also earned the distinction on the All-Freshman Team.
The Dudley, England native was a two-time A-Sun Men's Golfer of the Week this season and received All-Tournament Team accolades at the conference tournament following his tie for fourth place performance, second-best in program history behind Josh Gallman.
Cornfield led the team this season with a 71.44 stroke average to also rank third in the conference, while tying for the team-lead playing in all ten events and appearing in 27 rounds. He had 15 rounds of par or better, and logged five top-10 and three top-5 finishes, while registering one victory. Cornfield finished the season with four top-10 performances in his final five events, including three straight at the Furman Intercollegiate, Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational and A-Sun Championships. Cornfield compiled three of the lowest rounds on the team this season of 64, 67 and 69 twice.
He earned his second career victory at the Furman Intercollegiate where he tied a tournament record of 13-under par. His round of 64 at the Furman Intercollegiate tied for the lowest round of any A-Sun golfer this season and also set a new school record.
In the most recent Golfstat ranking, Cornfield sits in 105th place overall. The senior earns his third career postseason recognition from the A-Sun and First Team All-Conference honors for the first time. Cornfield was twice named Second Team All-Conference in 2014 and 2015. He is the first Spartan men's golfer to be named First Team All-Conference since Gallman in 2010.
Cornfield looks to play himself into position to earn a second consecutive individual berth to the NCAA Regionals. The 2016 NCAA Men's Golf Selection Show will be on Thursday, May 5 at 9:30 a.m. announced live on the Golf Channel's Morning Drive show.
