
Spartans Travel to North Florida for Final A-Sun Road Series

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate baseball team will play its final road A-Sun series of the season this weekend as the Spartans travel to Jacksonville, Fla. for a three-game series against the University of North Florida. The series begins Friday at 6 p.m. followed 1 p.m. matchups on Saturday and Sunday.
Upstate is 20-25 and 3-11 in league play following a series win over FGCU last weekend at Harley Park. The Spartans won Friday's game 7-3 followed by a 21-18 win on Saturday before seeing a ninth inning rally fall just short on Sunday as the Eagles won 15-13. Saturday's 21 runs scored were the most by Upstate since 2013. Jake Beaver went 10-for-14 with five RBI in the series, including a 5-for-5, four RBI performance on Saturday.
The Spartans lead the A-Sun with 20 triples. Cody Brittain is the league leader with five triples. Brittain is tied for first in the conference with a .384 batting average. Tyler Jackson is second in the league with 77 strikeouts.
North Florida is 31-17 after splitting a home and home midweek series against Georgia Southern. The Ospreys are 9-6 in the league after winning two of three games against Lipscomb last weekend. Senior catcher Keith Skinner leads the league in on-base percentage and is tied for second in batting average. North Florida leads the all-time series 38-7-1 after a sweep of the Spartans at Harley Park in 2015.
